The Honorable Member for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has moved a private motion in parliament requesting the president of the government of Ghana led by Nana Akufo Addo to take urgent steps to absorb the fees of students of public tertiary education Institutions for the 2020/2021 academic year.

He also called for an extension of support to accredited private Universities as part of the national covid 19 alleviation measures being implemented by the government.

Seconding the motion, the member of parliament for Akatsi North pleaded on parliament to on consensus resolve as requested by the mover of the motion so that Government can by way of support help parents in paying the fees of their wards in the public and private Universities.

Commenting on the motion, the Information Minister-Designate, Honorable Kwadwo Opong Nkrumah requested that for the president to help the situation, certain standards must be met, explaining further that he wouldn't be able to support the motion because the mover has not been specific on what the president should do.

According to Oppong Nkrumah, Honorable Mahama Ayariga could have made a statement instead of the mere motion which is not clear.

He said this during his term of debating the private motion moved by the NDC MP for Bawku Central. On the part of the North Tongu MP, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa told the house that, the motion is a competent one and must be approved by the house.

Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that, in one way or the other, every one is doing something as an MP to alleviate the plight of their people.

He said, even the former president John Dramani Mahama from his own pocket went around the country to support all the Regional hospitals with personal protective equipments and other things.
