Awutu Adontenhene Commend Police Chiefs for Excellent Security during General Elections

He commended the IGP for banning NDC demonstrations in Accra during the Yuletide to ensure the security of the region where so many people were expected to visit during the holidays.

The Adontenhene of Awutu Traditional Area of the Central Region, Nai Nchartey Okine VII, has extended appreciation to God Almighty for the relative peace that was chalked during and after the elections in the Auwtu Senya West Constituency.

Addressing the journalists on the outcome of the 2020 general elections to give an annual message to his people at Awutu- Breku recently, the Chief commended the police Commanders of Breku, Bawjiase, and Senya for the professional manner in which they handled security, for which no fight or confusion ensued during the polls, in the constituency.

He stressed that the Awutu Chiefs are very proud of the said Police Chiefs.

He continued that his people are naturally law-abiding people and they expressly demonstrated the attitude during the election to all the Awutu Chiefs and security Agencies.

The Chief averred that nothing untoward happened during the exercise, adding that other areas in the country that recorded violence need to emulate the Awutu success story in future for peace to reign in all those trouble spots.  

He emphasized that during elections there is no need to fight or rein insults at opponents.

Nai Okine VII also called on those not satisfied with the results of the election of the EC to desist from demonstrations and rather challenge the verdict in the Law Court as riots could lead to more risky and dangerous situations.

He noted that demonstrations cannot develop our young democracy but rather destroy it.

Nai Okine also stated that it was clear that the two major Parties fought hard and that was shown in the final results where both the Parliamentary and Presidential races were competitive and though. 

He asserted that it was clear too that Ghanaians want both NPP and NDC to work together as the numbers of MPs of both NPP and NDC is almost equal.

The chief continued that before the 2020 elections both NDC and NPP Presidential Candidates pledged to accept the outcome of the election, so he called on them to go by their pledge.

He called on the Police to arrest and discipline persons or people who pronounced that two Presidents would be sworn into office on January 7, 2020, to deter others from making such treasonable statements in future.
