  It has emerged that over twenty-four thousand (24000) birds that have been infected with Avian influenza have been destroyed in the Bono region.

It has emerged that over twenty-four thousand (24000) birds that have been infected with Avian influenza have been destroyed in the Bono region.
As part of efforts to contain the spread of the disease to the unaffected farms, four thousand (4000) crates of eggs have also been destroyed.
The regional director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Donald Joachim Darko told Soiree News on  Thursday that, the region is the tenth (10th) to record the bird flu.
The regional director said, the influenza was imported from other parts of the country and advised the public to be watchful and report suspected cases to the Department.
"Movements of poultry products from one place to another are restricted at the affected farms. I call on the security agencies to help enforce the restrictions."
Avian influenza, or bird flu, is a highly infectious type of influenza that mainly affects birds.
Mentioning some of the symptoms of the disease, Dr. Darko observed that, the birds pass very watering stool, they have their comb and wattles changes to red.
Avian influenza commonly referred to as 'bird flu, is a highly contagious viral infection of birds. Serious forms of the disease can cause severe symptoms and sudden death in domestic poultry (up to 100 percent of birds).
