The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minerals Commission (MC) both failed to properly monitor and report on reclamation of some 12 small scall mining companies.

That, according to the Auditor General, in its latest report on regulating reclamation activities at small-scale mining sites (SSMS) ending the year December 2021, did not ensure that small scale mining companies comply with reclamation conditions in their licenses and permits.

“We found that while EPA gave minimal attention to monitoring, both organisations did not take action to ensure reclamation of mined sites,” the report disclosed.
