Tricycle (Aboboyaa) ridders at Atebubu/Amantin in the Bono East Region have today commenced a sit-down strike over what they describe as “unfair treatment” by the police in the area.

The strike according to the Riders is to register their grievances to the necessary authorities for their concerns to be addressed with immediate effect.
Outlining their concerns, the Chairman for the Pragyia Riders Association Ibrahim Zakaria (Zaki)  accused the police of arresting their members over unlawful parking and extorting monies from them whiles the Municipal Assembly has not demarcated a parking place for them.
They explained with pain how the Assembly has neglected them despite paying tax, a situation they believed has paved the way for the police to be humiliating them, hence their decision.
“They arrest our members and send them to court for them to pay GHC 600”, Mr. Ibrahim Zakaria explained.
They want the Assembly to get them a permanent parking space to avoid police harassment.
But in response, the station officer at Atebubu Police Command, Chief Inspector Isaac Banafo indicated that they have been arresting the riders over failure to register and license the bikes. He said, “it has become necessary to register your bikes because some criminals have been resulting to using bikes for criminal activities”.
Chief Inspector Isaac Banafo however cautioned the tricycle ridders to register their vehicle to avoid being arrested.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Atebubu/Amantin constituency Hon. Sanja Nanaja who intervened in the situation appealed to the leaders of the association to do their work in accordance with the law. That the lawmaker believes will save them from being arrested and being harassed.
