When a bus struck an explosive device on the highway between Bandiagara and Goundaka in central Mali, at least 11 persons died.

Many more people suffered significant injuries.

In the West African nation, a jihadist insurgency has displaced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes and taken thousands of lives.

From the end of August of this year, mines and improvised explosive devices had resulted in more than 70 fatalities, according to a report by the UN mission in Mali (Minusma).
