Assembly Members from the fourteen (14) electoral areas

Assembly Members from the fourteen (14) electoral areas including the government appointees in Weija-Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have declared their total support for the second term retention of the Municipal Chief Executive of Weija-Gbewe Municipal Assembly, Mr Patrick Kwasi Brako Kumor.

Addressing a crowded press conference in Accra today to showcase the two years achievements of the current MCE, the Assembly members appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to consider the good works done by Mr Kumor for the past years and retain him in his second term.

According to them, the MCE has demonstrated a very good working relationship with the chiefs, Assembly members, business personalities, persons living with persons with disability (PWDs), students, traditional office holders and religious leaders, which hitherto has brought massive development in the fourteen electoral areas within the municipality.

The 19 out 21 Assembly members who were present at the presser noted that they were calling on the President to retain the MCE because since he assumed office in September 2018, Mr Kumor has distinguished himself as a development-oriented, human-centred individual as well as a great asset to the municipality.

Addressed by the Assembly Member for New Gbawe Electoral Area, Honorable Andrew Oppong Amoako stated that Mr Kumor was one of the best MCEs the country has ever had and his vision, integrity, commitment and selfless dedication have brought tremendous development which has helped shaped the municipality as a whole.

They denied that they organised a press conference to counter the accusation levelled against the MCE by some disgruntled members of the so-called Citizens of Weija-Gbawe.

Additionally, Mr Amoako stated there are absolute peace and unity in the area due to the instrumental of the MCE and Member of Parliament (MP), Mrs Naa Ayeley Gifty Tina Mensah.

It is against this background that the Assembly members who double as the Board of Directors of Weija-Gbawe Municipality Assembly and government appointees unanimously agreed to give our full and unflinching support to Mr Kumor when he nominated at any by our President His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the second term as the MCE for Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly," they stressed.

The Assembly members emphasized that "the kind of social and infrastructure intervention projects and programmes we have seen in our the fourteen electoral areas since the leadership of Mr Kumor, we have no doubt that if the President has given him the second terms, we would see more developments coming to our areas."

They pointed out since the MCE took over administrative affairs of the Assembly, he worked extremely hard with the MP to bring peace, unity and development to the people in all the fourteen electoral areas within the municipality.

Under the administration of the MCE, they indicated the areas can now boast of reshaping, upgrading and aliphatic of major various roads, reduction of crimes rate through the provision of street lights, reduction of water born diseases by provision potable drinking water to the needy communities, improvement in school and health facilities and business development.

According to them, the MCE performed extremely well in his first term and believes will do even much better for the fourteen electoral areas if he is maintained by the President.

"We are informing our listening President that changing Mr Kumor will cause a delay in the progress of Weija-Gbewe Municipality considering the good and services he has rendered to the municipality since his appointment.

"The MCE has done nothing wrong to be changed and has served the people well since he assumed office and that any attempt by sacking the MCE will bring a retrogression in our area.

They added that the Assembly Members and government appointees are happy about working with Mr Kumor, "so we are saying that our President to renew the mandate of the MCE and if he is not able to perform then we change him but not now."

The Assembly maintained that they are all satisfied with the performance of Mr Kumor in the past two and years and backed him to be reappointed by the President.

They stressed that Mr Kumor never undermined the work of the NPP and they will support him if the government maintains him as the MCE.

The MCE was instrumental in helping the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija-Gbewe Constituency, Mrs Gifty Nana Ayeley Tina Mensah in winning the parliamentary seat in just ended general election on December 7, 2020.

They pointed out that the MCE has initiated pragmatic measures to improve in achievements of the projects in the following categories like health, road, water and sanitation, security and law education, electricity and energy, economy and development, agriculture and social intervention and PWDs.

They asserted that the MCE has completed some of the abandoned projects under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) since he took the office, saying that all the developmental projects and programmes done in the area by Mr Kumor in his first term are visible for anyone to see.

"The MCE has been in office for just two years, but has initiated a lot of social and infrastructure intervention projects and programmes in the municipality, more than any other MCE who has been in the area,' they emphasized.

The constituents touched on various roads that have been constructed under the administration of Mr Kumor, in the last three years.

In the area of drainage structures, "we want to state that more drainages have been constructed by the MCE to stop flooding in the area, in addition, he has taken measures in solving other related problems, to make life comfortable for the constituents.

They indicated that under the leadership of Mr Kumor, about two thousand (2000) streetlights have been fixed in the municipality to prevent criminal activities and ensure the security of the people in the area.

In an attempt to manage sanitation issues in Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly, they noted that Mr Kumor has positioned eighty-four 340ml bins at vantage points in the assembly; which is aimed at controlling the rampant instances of littering.

To redeem the situation, they said the MCE  has made provisions for ‘Borla taxis’ which are designed to go round and empty the bins on a daily basis, to ensure a very clean environment for the assembly.

They mentioned that Mr Kumor also supplied sanitation facilities to Oblogo Kindergarten block at Tetegu, an Islamic School at Mallam Gbawe, Djoma, and Weija Presby Junior High School.

"A fence wall has been erected around the Gbawe Methodist School to ensure the safety of the pupils in the school.

"Under the administration of the MCE, the crime rate is relatively less under his term in office, due to the illumination of the streets with lights at points of crime incidence," the mentioned.

In terms of infrastructure and amenities, the Assembly members asserted that Mr  Kumor had provided mono-desks and dual beds to the schools, adding that the excess was given to schools outside the municipality.

Under the administration of Weija Gbawe MCE, they pointed out that a total of four CHPS (Community Health-Based Planning and Services) compounds have been built in the municipality, with the help of Honorable Tina Gifty Naa Ayele Mensah (Member of Parliament of Weija Gbawe and the Deputy Minister of Health).

During the administration of the MCE, they noted that the Akawe Hospital has undergone expansions such as a new, befitting maternity block.

To ease the pressure on Akawe, they said the MCE has ordered for the construction of the CHPS compounds for satellite areas that will require other health posts.” The places they mentioned included Oblogo, Tetegu, and Weija.

"We will like to advise the President that the MCE should be given a second term to continue to finish all the ongoing projects and programmes because the Weija-Gbawe is moving forward with the administration of Mr Kumor and Mrs Tina Mensah," they emphasized.
