Assembly Meembers of Jaman South Failed to Elect their Presiding Member for the Second Time.

The two years mandate for the Presiding Member for Jaman South Municipal Assembly of the Bono Region which has expired has paved the way for the assembly to elect a new presiding member to steer the affairs of the assembly turned into a different story.

The assembly on Tuesday 28th June 2022 with the Electoral Commission opened nominations for polls and only two persons showed up to be elected for the vacant position of Honourable Ohemeng Gyaase and Honourable Atta Agyapong Ernest respectively.

The Electoral Commission headed by Mr. Oscar Ampem Darko conducted the elections on Tuesday out of 54 members who cast their votes, Honourable Ohemeng Gyaase had 28 votes and Honourable Atta Agyapong Ernest also had 26 votes.

At the end of the polls, none of the two nominees managed to obtain a 2/3 majority of 37 votes cast hence there was a runoff and afterward none of them was able to obtain the required votes to immerge as a winner.

However, before the election, the assembly had already met for the first time to elect their Presiding Member on 16th June 2022 which included the incumbent presiding member and the other two assembly members also failed to obtain a 2/3 majority after three runoffs which they were all disqualified from contesting again.

The Municipal Chief Executive Honourable Andrews Atta Berdiako expressed his worry about the assembly members' failure to elect their presiding members but urged them to devoid the elections of the presiding from factionalism and think about the progress and development of the Municipality.

Some of the assembly members who were not happy also expressed their views about how they have failed to elect their presiding member for the second time but advised that all the assembly members will come back again next time to do the needful when being called.
