ASP Jones Asanti, Other Police Officers In Central East Police Regional Command Must Be Reshuffled Now! -Residents In Gomoa Fetteh Appeals To IGP
Scores of youth, residents and elders including land developers in Gomoa Fetteh and adjoining communities in the Central Region have served notice to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to act on their clarion calls to do a house cleaning exercise by reshuffling some senior police officers in the Central East Police Regional Headquarters which is located at Millennium City in Gomoa Fetteh.
According to the residents, there is clear envidence that the newly-created Central East Regional Police Command headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr. David Senanu Eklu has lost its professionalism as Ghana Police Service.
They pointed out that most of the police officers in the region are allegedly supporting land guard operations compounded with illegal arrests and prosecutions without investigations, intimidating innocent citizens, extorting monies from vulnerable suspects among others.
These police officers have been accused of exhibiting these criminal acts on the blind side of the Central East Police Regional Commander, DCOP Mr. David Senanu Eklu.
They indicated that their investigations have revealed that there is no proper Operations unit in the Central East Regional Police Command, and that it is one ASP Jones Asanti and his boys who are currently acting as operations for the region, so they are unprofessionally operating anyhow and in everything even languardism.
Speaking in an interview with the residents in Gomoa Fetteh, they sounded extremely bitter and aggrieved with the fact that the crime Officer of the Central East Police Regional Command, DSP Innocent Agbenyo, CID Chief Inspector Obed Kpokpo and one Corpora Nunu have ganged up with the land guards in the area, committing atrocities and treating the poor people unjustly.
"It is not secret in Gomoa Fetteh here that  sometimes, it is Kwesi Alhaji who arrests people he thinks they are being a stumbling block in his land guard operations, beat them and inflict numerous wounds on their bodies per his satisfaction and then eventually hand them over to the CIDs for arrest and with immediate effect, the crime officer as well orders for prosecution without thorough investigations into the matter. They again told this news hub that this Kwesi Alhaji sometimes only place a call to either the crime officer or the Operations, and they just follow his instructions for arrest like Jesus and his disciples," they alleged.
"The way and manner the citizens in the Gomoa Fetteh enclaves poured their heart out with heat and grievances, if the IGP does not intervene or act quickly on this worrisome matter, it could escalate to something unpalatable."
They further accused many of the police officers at the police command of allegedly helping some self-seeking elders led by Kwesi Alhaji to hire the services of notorious land-guards to allegedly beat the youth who stood up against Kwesi Alhaji and his followers for dabbling in reselling of already sold Gomoa Fetteh lands to unsuspecting land developers and organisations.
“We want to state clearly that the premises of the Central East Police Regional Headquarters are the place for notorious land-guards. The police officers train these land-guards to beat us in Gomoa Fetteh anytime we protest the illegal actions of Kwasi Alhaji and his gangsters," they alleged.
According to him, “Kwesi Alhaji was in league with police officers and other self-seeking government officials who were allegedly supporting land-guards to brutalise we the youth, individuals land developers who have legally bought lands from them at the Gomoa Fetteh and adjoining communities.”
That frightening situation, the residents stressed, required the urgent action of the police administration.
“It also urgently required the attention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government to reshuffle the police officers at the Central East Police Regional Headquarters, a resident by name Mr Isaac Kwesi Asare urged.
Further, Mohammed Alhassan Sulley, an automatic mechanic resident in the area, accused senior police officers of allegedly using their wives to cook food on daily basis for the land-guards who have been tormenting them in Gomoa Fetteh.
However, they commended the Accra Regional Police Command on their efforts to flush out land-guards in the region, and stressed the urgent need for the Police Administration to extend same operation to the Gomoa Fetteh.
Fear and insecurity
According to them, if the police were looking for an area that had become the headquarters for land-guards then it was the Gomoa Fetteh.
They stated that this group of miscreants had become so notorious that the police at Central East Police Regional Headquarters who were supposed to clamp down on their activities were unable to match them boot-for-boot, resulting in fear and insecurity in that part of the region.
They noted that lives were becoming dangerous for land developers and residents at Gomoa Fetteh and its adjoining environs, because anybody can become a target or victim of these “scoundrels, wretched, lawless, villains, murderers and trespassers,” who have no consideration and respect for human lives.”
Appeal
To this end, they reiterated their appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to impress upon the IGP to curb the menace by reshuffling his officers at the Central East Police Regional Headquarters.
According to them, the rise in land-guard activities in the said communities was as a result of a call on the Police Administration by President Akufo-Addo to flush out land-guards in the country.
