Scores of residents within the Ashaiman Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have hit the streets over increasing water prices.

The demonstrators who staged a protest today, Thursday, March 23, 2023, decried a dwindling standard of living amidst the loss of jobs hence calling for an immediate reduction. The protest which started in Zongo Laka, a suburb of Ashaiman is expected to be repeated until decision-makers heed their calls. "They have given us a bad name so we do not want to do anything apart from a peaceful protest so that no group of heartless individuals will come and unleash terror on innocent and pitiful individuals", the scores of protestors decried. The demonstrators were seen carrying basins, rubber bowls, and yellow gallons popularly known as " Kuffour gallons chanting "yen tomi now nsia" to wit, we can buy water. Hardly hit by the unreasonable increments by the regulator will be women and Muslims as they may need more water and be free for their daily activities. Men, on the other hand, who is responsible for fending for the home, are already crying as most of them are jobless. Though the unreasonable hike in water tariffs was communicated the residents say the government must mitigate to cushion the ordinary Ghanaian. One yellow gallon of water which used to be sold at GHp0.50 is now being sold at GHS1.00 and GHS3.00 with a parameter of proximity as a determiner.
