A-29-year-old unemployed man has received a shocker of life as the Ashaiman Circuit Court sentenced him on two counts of causing unlawful damage and stealing. Yussif Mohammed was found guilty on count one:causing unlawful damage contrary to section 172(1)(b) of the criminal offences Act, 1960(Act 29) and count two:stealing contrary to section 124(1) of the criminal offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The court presided over by His Honour Simon Gaga found Yussif Mohammed guilty, convicted and sentenced him to 2 years on count one and 5 years on count two with both sentences to run concurrently. The court further directed that the scrap from the sign board be given to the complainant. Prosecution: Chief Inspector Patrick Ayensu presenting fact of the case as investigated by Detective Constable Richard Aidoo to court said the complainant, Enoch Doku Boadu, aged, 43,is a businessman and a deacon of Royal House Chapel International Church, Kanewu branch while the accused, Yussif Mohamed, aged 29, is unemployed and resides at Adjei-Kojo, a suburb of Ashaiman. Prosecution said the complainant erected his church signboard, valued at GHS6,000.00 at Kanewu Junction near Accra-Tema Motorway. He said on the 02/02/23, about 3:00am, the accused internationally and unlawfully cut the signboard into pieces and carried away. Prosecution said a witness in the case who saw the accused with the items informed the Police, and the accused was arrested. The accused in his caution statement, Prosecution said admitted having damaged the signboard and stole in order to sell as scraps. After investigations, the accused was charged with the offences as indicated on the charged sheet and put before the honourable court.
