The Ashaiman Circuit Court has jailed a construction labourer for 15 years in hard labour for the offense of robbery.

Ashaiman circuit court has sentenced a construction labourer to 15 years in hard labour for the offense of robbery. Fred Agyekum was sentenced on his plea on the count of robbery contrary to section 149 of the criminal offenses Act 1960.

The court presided over by His Honour Simon Gaga found Fred Agyekum alias Logic guilty, convicted on his own plea, and sentenced to 15 years in hard labour. The court further ordered the police to return the items he robbed under the threat of arms which include a Samsung A2 Mobile Phone valued at GHS600.00 ana cash of GHS51.00 to the owner, Prince Afetogbor. Prosecuting: the Prosecutor, ASP Ernest Kufie presenting the investigated facts by D/INSPR.

Basuglo Thomas, said the complainant, Prince Afetogbor age 18, and an Electrician Apprentice resides at Gbetsile, whilst the accused, Fred Agyekum alias Logic being a construction labourer aged 21, and also resides at Aviation in Ashaiman within the Greater Accra Region.

He said at about 6:30 am of January 3,2023, the complainant who went to see his master at Gbetsile Bumper and while waiting for his master to open the gate to enter, the accused rushed on him with a double edged knife and threatened to stab him if the complainant fail to surrender his phone and money. Out of fear, the prosecutor said the complainant surrendered his Samsung A2 mobile phone valued at GHS600.00 and a cash sum of GHS51.00 to the accused who ordered the complainant to leave the scene.

He said after the complainant moved few steps away, he mastered courage and threw his hammer at the accused which incident infuriated the accused and he started chasing the complainant with a knife but the complainant raised an alarm. With the assistance of good samaritans, the accused was arrested and handed over to police. The police,however retrieved the complainant's items from the accused as well as the knife the accused used in committing the crime.

After investigations, the accused was charged with the offense as indicated on the charge sheet and put before the honourable court.
