Ashainan circuit court has slapped two criminals to a 500 penalty units amounting to GHS6,000.00 on two counts of stealing and abutment of crime namely stealing.

Two 23-year old unemployed criminals:Samuel Mensah aka Kwaku and Richard Eshun aka Budu Ti who have been terrorizing residents in Ashaiman within the Greater Accra Region are facing the full wrath of the law on two counts of stealing contrary to section 124(1) of the criminal offences Act, 1990(Act 29).

In addition, the hardened duo were charged for abetment of crime namely: stealing contrary to sections 20(1) and 124(1) of the criminal offences Act, 1960(Act 29).

The court presided over by His Honour Simon Gaga found them guilty, convicted and sentenced to a fine of 500 penalty units amounting to GHS6,000.00 or in default serve a-year jail term in hand labour.

Meanwhile, A1 pleaded guilty on count 1 while A2 pleaded guilty on count 1 and 2. His Honour Simon Gaga said as part of his judgement that the two were partners in crime. Prosecuting: Chief Inspector S. Aperweh said the complainant, Yakubu Mensah, a 32 year old driver while the accused Samuel Mensah aka. Kwaku (A1), Richard Eshun aka. Budu Ti (A2), both 23 years old and unemployed.

The prosecutor said the complainant and the accused persons who are neighbours residing at Zenu. On the 21st day of September, 2022 at about 9:30pm, the complainant returned home from work and parked his Royal Motor bike with registration number M-17-GR5666 in front of his door.

The complainant went out to a nearby food joint to buy food and met A1 entering the compound.

On his return, he realised that Samuel Mensah aka. Kwaku pushed the motor bike from the compound to a distance of about 200m. The complainant later picked intelligence that Samuel Mensah aka Kwaku gave out the motor bike to A2 to sell. In the same night at about 10:30pm, A2(Richard Eshun aka. Budu Ti managed to take the motor bike to Ashaiman Fitter Line and sold it to one Sarkodie at the cost of GHS400.00.

Richard Eshun returned the same night to and gave out GHS200.00 to Samuel Mensah aka Kwaku as his share of the proceed through one Emmanuel the younger brother of Richard Eshun aka. Budu Ti.

The dishonest receiver also known as Sarkodie managed to escape arrest when Samuel Mensah aka. Kwaku and Richard Eshun aka. Budu Ti led police to his shop at Ashaiman Fitter Line.

After investigation, the two criminals were charged with the offences as per the charge sheet and put before this court.
