The Asanteman Nkosuo NPP Mpuntuo, an identifiable pressure Group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo be discerning in his Metropolitan, Municipal, District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) appointment for the various (MMDAs).

The Group has maintained that failure for Nana Addo to choose a leader with the backing of the people could limit the NPPs chances of breaking the eight in the 2024 General elections.

Hajia Laila Issah Ababio, Secretary of the Group

Speaking at a press conference organized on Monday, June 14, 2021, at the Children’s Park in the Ashanti Region, the Secretary of Asanteman Nkosuo, Hajia Laila Issah Ababio exposed that most of the contenders for the MMDCE roles have become a thorn in the flesh of constituents and if the severed relationship is not considered before making appointments, it could upset voters who in the long run will not feel the need to keep bracing the NPP.

“Although MMDCEs represent the President in the various districts, and communities, but most of them have lost touch with the grassroots, because of their conduct, and attitudes,” she revealed.

“So bringing them back without consulting grassroots people may result in bitterness, and in the long run, voter apathy, which may not go well for us to make the slogan, break the eighth, a reality.”

Hajia also confronted comments made by the Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Professor Ken Attafuah regarding the employment of politically biased persons at the Authority.

She asserted that before the NIA boss was defined, it took the former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor to appoint him, a decision they believe was part of the ‘preferential treatment to party people’ the NIA boss is against today.

“We want to advise the NIA boss, Professor Attafuah to tread cautiously and be very mindful of his utterances, publicly, because even that Biblical great and wise king selected those he trusted and could work with at sensitive positions in his government, although the bigger the picture was to serve the interests of all Israel.

“Moreover, we all seem to be bashing the NIA boss but our observation as a group is that most ministers and CEOs are also culpable of this same attitude.”

The Asanteman Nkosuo further commended President Akufo Addo’s inventive tree planting exercise and called for its sustenance.

“This is a very laudable initiative from our president, but we only advise that serious attention is paid to the sustenance and maintenance of the laudable initiative,” she praised.
