Asante Akim NPP Aspiring Candidate withdraws interest in contest

Ms. Abena Frimpong Manso, an aspiring candidate in the Asante Akim constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has voluntarily withdrawn her interest in contesting for the seat.

It is the second time an aspirant has willingly drawn the curtain in the ongoing Ashanti Regional vetting process of the NPP. Thomas Forkuor earlier stepped down in the race to contest incumbent MP, Hon. Samid Sulemana in the upcoming primaries.

Breaking the news to the press at the Hasta Lodge in Santasi on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, the General Secretary of the party, Mr. John Boadu addressed that Ms. Abena Frimpong Manso, a former Banker who gave up work to race willingly halted “considering the dynamics on the ground to continue to play an active part in the party.”

“In the first half of our vetting process today, we have done about four constituencies and we were about to finish with Asante Akim North.

“Three aspirants put in their intentions to contest and one of them in the person of Ms. Abena Frimpong Manso has decided to voluntarily, considering the dynamics on the ground to personally withdraw and continue to be active and help nurture the party in the constituency to maximize the votes they had from 2016 to a much more votes.

“She has done so well. She was working in a bank and decided to resign to contest the seat but even after sacrificing, have also gone ahead to sacrifice further in the interest of the party. The constituency wholeheartedly will also continue to work with her,” the General Secretary said.

The Vetting process of the NPP in the Ashanti Region is still ongoing as it enters into it's third stage.
