Arsenal will discuss contract extension talks with Alexander Lacazette, talkSPORTS reports.

The Frenchman joined the Gunners in 2017 and has his current deal set to expire 18 months later.

He was the then record signing for Arsenal joining from Lyon for  £46.5 million and has since been versatile at the Emirates Stadium notching 57 goals in 146 features for the club.

Lacazette has scored nine goals in this season’s campaign as his brace against West Bromwich Albion helped Arteta’s side to record a third straight victory in the League and move into 11th position.

According to Mikel Arteta, the player is key within the squad and his future will soon be resolved.

“We will talk in the summer and make a decision on what is going to happen,” he said.

“We haven't talked about anything relating to his contract. I'm delighted with the way he is performing, the goals he is scoring and the form and energy he is in at the moment. He needs to keep doing that.”

The 29-year-old has overtaken the club’s captain, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang this season in terms of goals as the Gabonese continues to endure goal bareness.

He failed to score against West Bromwich Albion in the Gunners 4-0 victory against Sam Allardyce side at the Hawthorns yet Arteta beliveves that with time, the player will pick up hence Lacazette’s assistance.

“I keep saying, we can’t keep putting all the weight on Auba’s shoulders to score the goals,” he said. “We need contributions.

“The midfielders need to score more and give more assists, and we need goals from our wingers as well. Laca is in great form and has scored five goals in his last four games, which is what we need from our strikers.

“Auba had some chances to score on Saturday and it was the same in the last game or so, but I am so pleased because in the final third we looked lively and there was a lot of movement.

“There is good energy, there is a real purpose and everybody is playing forwards. It’s like we are free to play there and the understanding is allowing us to generate a lot of things there.”
