According to the victims, they accused the police of taking the laws into their own hands and terrorizing the people of  East Legon Mempeasem without no apparent reason but to destroy their properties.

A Number of about 150 armed Policemen have invaded the East Legon Mempeasem community in the Ayawaso West  Municipality of the Greater Accra region.

The police officers were ordered to ensure a number of properties belonging to private individuals are pulled down today Tuesday morning 17th January 2023 around 10 am.

Some of the victims in an interview with the media said the armed men were in police vehicles and claimed that the lands commission has granted them the order to embark on the demolition exercise without any court order.

Ing. Kwasi Taylor,  whose property has been pulled down told newsmen that, all the documents covering his properties were authenticated by the  Lands Commission.

The Police C.I.D in their investigations has proven that the said properties are not on government land according to the government’s land surveyors. 

According to the victims, they accused the police of taking the laws into their own hands and terrorizing the people of  East Legon Mempeasem without no apparent reason but to destroy their properties.

The media investigations also picked into the incident and it was revealed that the Police vehicle with registration No. GP 4801 was part of the exercise.

The victims alleged that a lady claiming to be a lands commission official was also part of the demolition exercise.

They, therefore, threatened legal action against the government if justice is not to prevail concerning the situation it will be terrible and asserted that, the victims will also defend themselves with reasonable force if care is not taken.
