The National Democratic Congress (NDC) have labelled the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta’s comments made on road projects undertaken under the Mills Mahama era as fallacious.

According to the NDC Communications Director of the Ashanti Region, Abass Nurudeen, the Roads and Highway minister’s statement that no government has invested on road projects in the Greater Kumasi since 1981 lacks certainty and needs to be corrected.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako was on a two-day working tour of roads in the Ashanti Region on Monday, May 4, 2020. He addressed the press at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) on government’s commitment to complete all road projects started in the Ashanti Region before going on inspection.

He was joined by the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei- Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, NPP regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako as well as the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah.

At a press conference organized by the NDC on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at the party’s Regional Office in Kumasi, Amakom, the communications Director clarified that 400 kilometers of roads were constructed under the leadership of former president, the late. Prof. Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama.

He addressed that the Ejisu Municipality as part of the 18 constituencies in the Greater Kumasi can boast of highways at the Jachie Junction, Tikrom which leads to Antoa, Ampabameng Junction, Onwe, Esienimpong, Kuntenase and others. The Nhyiaeso constituency was also mentioned with road infrastructures stretching through Ahodwo Clinic, TUC New Orleans, Star Junction, Andy Grace, Osei Nkwanta Bisa, Odeneho Kwadaso and many others achieving 12 a kilometer distance.

Manhyia North and South, Tafo, Asokore Mampong and a few others were touched on.

“It baffles as to why the minister did make such claims. We are not surprise due to the fact that deception has been a part of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s government right from the initiation,” Abass disclosed.

He attacked the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) government for failing to fulfill their promises regarding the 1District, 1Factory challenging that the opposition party will keep them in check of their promises and provide every needed information on fabricated remarks that will be made against the NDC for points.

Abass further corrected that Hon Amoako Atta’s statement on the NDC abandoning the Sofoline Interchange during the Mills era is also untrue. He elucidated that the 10 percent of the Sofoline project had been completed when former president Mills took over as president from the NPP with no financial provision. He tidied that the NDC leadership of Mills and Mahama through their own means made sure that the project was 85 percent completed before Nana Akufo-Addo took over.

“We don’t understand where these claims are coming from. His words are lies and misleading,” he added.

Nurudeen Abass also tagged the incumbent’s government plans of constructing four interchanges in the Ashanti Region as ‘building castles in the air.” He challenged that the words of the NPP are hullabaloo to dupe Ghanaians into voting them to power, which is unlikely.

“Residents in the Ashanti Region have learnt their lessons and will vote the NPP out based on their works. It is not about promises so they should watch out,” the communications director confidently uttered.

He finally called on Ghanaians to let their vote decide on December 7 in favor of the NDC.
