Demolition exercise by AMA

Worried traders at Rawlings Park of the Accra Central Business Centre (CMB) have wept uncontrollably following the decision by the task force of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to demolish over 600 store structures belonging to traders at Rawlings Park on Friday, April 7, 2021.

In a visit by Soireenews on Saturday, April 8, 2021, to the Rawlings Park to ascertain the authenticity of the demolishing exercise, the affected traders lashed out at the officials of the AMA for not showing a human face in their demolishing exercise.

"Look (referring to our reporter) most of the times if the AMA decides to embark on the demolishing of store and shop structures, it gives prior notice to us, but we want to state on record that the AMA did not give any prior notice to us in the connection of the recent demolition carried out," they noted.

According to them, the AMA has demolished stores being operated at Rawlings Park, following several complaints made by drivers over the difficulty they face in finding a place to park their vehicles when they visit the central business centre to do business.

They pointed out that AMA has dishonoured them through the exercise without notice.

"The officials of AMA only came to our place to write numbers on the shops (containers) and left. We went there to find out what was going on, only to be told they were blocking vehicles from having access to the parking lot so we should remove our containers,” some of the affected traders told soireenews
