"My dear countrymen, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, says the government’s flagship program, the Free Senior High School initiative, is taking a huge toll on the national budget despite the country’s meager resources. He added that unemployment is increasing in the country.
"Also, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey made the below statement “I believe strongly that we need to target people, and the most appropriate way is by means-testing," Mr. Boadi who doubles as the Educationist, Journalist, Socialist, and motivational speaker noted.
He indicated 'Instead of making SHSs free, why don’t "we make some free and others payable, adding that the academic is concerned about the state of Ghana’s Senior High School education emphasizing that secondary education in Ghana is becoming less and less competitive."
"And, as an educationist and Chief Executive Officer of Educate Africa Institute (EAI) l want to tell the government to allow the rich people to pay 90% of their fees and let the impoverished citizens enjoy free SHS education in the country.
"At least, the rich ones are entitled to enjoy a slight quota since they are citizens, there is a need for them to enjoy some of the resources. But a needy man is a hungry man," he stressed.
Moreover, he noted that the government must provide adequate infrastructure to annihilate double-track, and redefine the condition of service for teachers, enough food for learners localized the education content to equip students with knowledge and skills.
This, according to him would make them problem-solvers for the nation since we are using the oil money to invest in them.
He believes that there's enough money because we used more than GH¢68 million to purchase past papers for 2020 and 2021 WASSCE candidates just to pass their exams.
According to him, the government could have invested in local content development to equip students to help solve the problems like the unemployment situation confronting the country.
To save the country from economic hardship, Mr. Boadi opened that the government must stop unnecessary expenditures, and live like substantial leaders and not like kings. Also, park and sell the numerous V8, land cruisers and reduce the salaries and other benefits of its officials. Leaders lead but they don't boss over their followers.
"Mind you, the future belongs to those who prepare for it today. Let's prioritize technical and vocational education to train entrepreneurs for this and the next generation. Ghana must also reduce importation and improve on deportation. This strategy would compare us to producing more," Mr. Boadi stated.
