Akuapem North MP refutes she was Chased Away

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah has stated emphatically that she had successful meetings with her constituents in Mangoase, Aboabo No.1 and 2 on just ended weekend.

She ironically opined, only five Okada riders attempted to cause Mayhem at Mangoase during the meeting.

The comment by the MP follows viral video and publications that she was chased away by the angry youth of Mangoase who accused her of being incompetent and failed to address problems facing the Community particularly the deplorable road.

But the Lawmaker said “On Saturday, together with my constituency executives, we continued our community familiarization tour with a visit to Mangoase. I used the visit to donate some computers and their accompanying accessories to the Mangoase Methodist School to aid the teaching and learning of information technology.

"This was in fulfilment of a promise I made to the school a few months ago”.

“The visit also offered the contractor who is charged to work on the Adawso-Mangoase main road the opportunity to also interact and update the community on current developments, as far as the construction of that stretch of road is concerned. He assured them of the timeous start of the project.

"Although we had a successful engagement, about 5 Okada riders tried to cause mayhem, but in all, we had a successful interaction with the community”.

Soiree News publication about a week ago indicated, that, residents of Aboabo No.1 & 2, both farming Communities near Akuapem Adawso in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern region were seething with anger over neglect by the government and the MP.

Residents are predominantly peasant farmers bemoaned, the communities have been neglected by the government resulting in worsening poverty among the residents.

Adawso to Aboabo No.1 & 2 to Mangoase roads is in deplorable condition while a classroom block and Teachers bungalow constructed about 15 years ago abandoned.

These communities are the main food basket of the municipality; however, the communities lack many basic social amenities.

The road from Akuapem Adawso to Aboabo No.1 & 2 to Mangoase continues to deteriorate making it difficult for farmers to transport their farm produce to market centres.

Some youth in the community were seen repairing the most deplorable portions of the road to aid the crossing of vehicles and motorbikes.

They were seething with anger accusing their Member of Parliament Ama Dokua Asiamah of not showing concern about their plight.

A primary school block and a teacher’s bungalow started 15 years ago have been abandoned while pupils have been compelled to occupy the uncompleted classroom block without adequate furniture.

The Chief of Aboabo, Nene Tetteh Djani II said the poor road network is affecting agriculture in the community hence calling on the government to rehabilitate the road.

The Queen-mother, Yaa Appaw II, told the Media that Pregnant women struggle to attend antenatal care due to the poor nature of the road.

The Assemblymember for Aboabo, Felix Bampoe, lamented on the abandoned teacher’s bungalow stating that the situation is discouraging teachers from accepting posting to the community.

One other major problem that confronted Aboabo No.1 & 2 was the lack of safe drinking water as Residents depended on polluted streams notwithstanding; Harriet Afriyie Foundation has constructed a water facility for the community.
