Aggrieved Residents of Assin South Laments Over Poor Road Network In the Area.

The aggrieved residents in the Assin South District of the Central Region have registered their displeasure over the poor nature of roads in the area.

The residents complained that the 15km road from Assin Aworoso connecting to the major food hub communities like Assin Aboabo Camp, Nyamebekyere, Akwetey Nō1, and 2 among other adjoining communities is in a very deplorable state, thus impeding the development in the area.

They maintained that “although the area is known for its massive production of both foodstuff and cash crops, the poor state of the roads is making their movement difficult for them to cart their produce to nearby market centers after harvest”, a situation that has contributed to the post-harvest losses in the area.

Speaking to Soireenews Correspondent Opamago Paparichy, the residents claimed that “their Member of Parliament (MP), Rev. John Ntim Fordjour who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Education has failed to deliver his promise to rehabilitate the roads in the area after he was appointed as Deputy Minister”.

“According to them, after the MP was nominated by the President for the Deputy Minister position, he summoned the chiefs and elders in the area for a mini durbar in August 2021 and assured to rehabilitate the roads but the contractor that was assigned for the work together with his machine left 30 minutes from the area after the MP had left with no reason.”

The residents have however called on their MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the District Chief Executive, Felicia Amissah Ntrakwa, and the government at large to fix the roads in the communities before they will advise them themselves.

The leader of the disgruntled resident and a Unit committee member for Assin Aboabo Camp Akwetey Electoral Area, Mr. Boasie Amponsah also disclosed that “the residents struggle to get to the nearby towns during emergency cases as drivers have even refused to ply the roads due to its bad nature and we want to know if we are part of Ghana” ? he quizzed.
