Afram Plains North Residents Laments Over Poor Road Network.

The residents of Kwahu Afram Plains North District in the Eastern Region have called on authorities to take swift action by fixing their deplorable main link road in the communities to help ease the transportation obstacles face th the district capital.

Speaking to the District Chief Executive  Honourable Isaac Ofori Korea said the bad state of the road has put on hold the economic and agricultural activities in the communities due to road accessibility.

The road at Tease that links directly to the district capital Donkokrom is the only major link road that residents use on daily basis to access neighboring and far communities within the district but is in very bad shape.

The DCE in his appeal to the Road minister narrated that the roads n the area are in deplorable conditions following torrential rains.

He said unlike previous years whereby community members mobilized to carry out some maintenance works on the road to enhance human and vehicular movement through the self-help project, unfortunately, it was missing this year due to its deteriorating state caused by the torrential rains beyond the ‘usual maintenance, by residents through communal labor.

The situation of the road still surprises many in the community after it was reported that their road has been awarded to a contractor before The December polls but till now nothing has been done about the road, leaving residents in bewilderment.

According to the District Chief Executive, farming is seen as a major occupation for the residents of Donkokrom but their efforts have always been in vain and their fortunes dwindled due to the poor nature of the road in the rainy season as they cannot access their farms leaving their produce to riot.

Women in Charcoal business in the communities who are engaging in charcoal production also explained that their businesses have gone down due to the bad state of the road because vehicles refused to come for their charcoal.

Due to the bad nature of the road, residents said, they also have terrible experiences when they want to access health care in the district capital with sick people, especially pregnant women.

The residents, therefore,  called on the government and authorities in the area as a matter of swiftness to fix their only reliable link road for them to boost their standard of living in the area.
