Addressing Challenges In Agric Will Upscale Steady Growth in W/R —Regional Director of Agric

The Regional Director of Agriculture in the Western Region, Mr. Patrick Akowuah, has underscored that a bold step in addressing challenges militating against agriculture, the sector will be to upscale in the region.

According to him, agriculture holds great potential to increase in the region.

He observed overall the progress of agriculture in the Western Region on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

He noted that inadequate animal feed supply to livestock farmers and inadequate agricultural Extension Agents (AEAs) were hampering extension delivery within the region.

He also indicated that the absence of storage facilities in the region was hindering the growth of agriculture in the region, a concern he appealed for ways to address.

The inadequate and high cost of agro inputs is also negatively impacting agriculture production in the region, he added.

Mr. Akowuah could not hide his disappointment at the aging farming population and agriculture staff who will soon be retiring without ready replacements.

“Poor access to land due to land tenure systems, illegal mining, and sand-winning activities competing with farmers for agricultural lands could also not be overlooked as factors militating with agriculture in the region,” he emphasized.

In the end, Mr. Akowuah entreated the authorities that matter to expedite actions to help upscale agriculture in the Western Region.
