Getafe's strength and conditioning coach, Javier Vidal has given his opinion on whether bodybuilding in modern football is the new trend for players.

Marca‘s article on Adama Traore’s muscular strength after his feature in Spain’s international friendly against Portugal on October 8, 2020, has generated a lot of debate on the new body approach for the game.

Traore is known for his addition of strength to skill as a winger to influence games in favour of Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 24-year old has been on the radar of top European clubs including his former club, Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Although the Spaniard has dismissed reports of working on his biceps and that he is naturally accustomed to the body speaking to Spanish Outlet La Sexta yet many have doubts at the Spaniard's words comparing his time at Barcelona in 2012 and now.

"My training? I don’t do weights.

"It’s hard to believe, but I don't do weights.

"It’s genetic. I exercise, but I gain mass very quickly."

Vidal revealed that the Wolves star’s form is the latest practice of players to add value to their game through speed and power, and commended Traore for keeping control of his stature.

"It's the latest step of a trend," he said.

"Everyone has a certain build, but there needs to be a lot of work put in behind that. The benefit of that gym work is increased speed and power. Before you might have thought all that bulk would make him [Traore] less agile, but it doesn't seem to have done."

According to Vidal, the style is very familiar in modern-day football revealing players like Ronaldo who are much into the bodybuilding campaign.

"We haven't seen players with his bulk in Spain so much," he said.

"But it's part of a trend in the last few years, that players are trying to eke the absolute maximum out of themselves. Cristiano Ronaldo is one who has done a lot of work, but his build is slimmer. There are many more like him."
