The Executive Secretary of Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM GH), Azubila Sallam Emmanuel has communicated that Ghana’s Democracy is in severe danger due to the ‘belligerent posture’ of the chair of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mad. Jean Mensa towards the upcoming general elections.

The Movement have thereby petitioned the National House of Chiefs and other political stakeholders to be on guard and shield the social equality enjoyed by Ghanaians through questioning the EC on any inappropriate implementations.

“Our reason is to draw the attention of our leaders on the actions of Madam Jean Mensa and her dishonest character and, ‘I don’t care attitude’, the way she conducts herself, we would say it is a belligerent posture which will not help our democracy.

“So we have come to present this to the president of the National House of Chiefs and his leaders to put their foot on the ground and protect our democracy, which is beyond the NPP and NDC. It is something that is a great asset to the youth of this country and it is time for us to come together and make sure it is not compromised by someone’s appointment,” he said.

Briefing the press at the Office of the National House of Chiefs, Manhyia in the capital of the Ashanti Region on Thursday morning, June 18, 2020, Azubila Sallam pointed reason which surrounds the EC rejecting ‘credible biometric voters register to compile another new biometric voters register for the upcoming 2020 general elections meanwhile biometric data does not expire.”

Ghana’s case count of the coronavirus disease as of June 18, 2020, has risen to 12,929 with 66 deaths and according to the Executive Secretary of ADAM GH, the voter’s registration exercise is needless especially at a point where there is a drastic increase in COVID-19 numbers.

“Our current confirmed cases stand at 12, 590 (as at the time of filing the petition) which is so scary and yet this woman is bent organizing the New Voters Register which is a biometric data and does not expire; the moment I put my five fingerprints and it captures.

“That data is unique than any other and facial recognition devices. This woman said she is doing away with our current biometric data that was used to elect our former President Mahama and incumbent Nana Addo, all Member of Parliament, Ministers, and was also used in our recent District Level Elections.

“This data is fantastic and there is nothing wrong with it.”

He further noted that the EC acted unprofessionally and was dishonest in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections testimony when an open bias comment was made thereby exposing the country’s democracy to danger.

“If you look at the strange circumstance that is surrounding the EC and her two other deputies, through the removal of Mad. Charlotte Osei and what of you, you realize that Ghanaians were not having confidence in this woman so we were expecting her to prove Ghanaians wrong by her professional activities but that is not what we are seeing.

The action of this woman currently has vindicated Ghanaians doubt about her neutrality and if you look at what happened at Ayawaso by-elections, you all saw it, and media men covered it. Unfortunately, Mad. Jean Mensa went to a short-commission and said she did not see what happened, there were no armed, no one was brutalized, no report came to her office and that the elections were fair.

“We are not happy with the actions of this woman. Our democracy is at serious risk, we are calling on these leaders especially the former president who enjoyed this peaceful democracy, and through it, he became president, served, and left peacefully.

"We want our democracy to go beyond President Mahama, Akufo Addo, and any other Ghanaian in existence now.

He opened up that an appeal has been sent to the former President John Agyekum Kuffour, Jerry John Rawlings, the Ya-Na Palace at Yendi, Trade Union Congress, Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and now the National House of Chiefs and Leaders requesting for the intervention in the impasse between the EC and some political parties including some civil society organizations and also help fight corruption to ensure peace and security in Ghana.
