The angry youth of Amanase, a community near Suhum along the Accra to Kumasi highway has embarked on an autonomously protest last night after a speedy and rashly driven vehicle crushed a 70-year-old man to death.

According to Asafohene of Amanase, Nana Asante Asumani, the accident occurred approximately at about 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 27, 2021.

The Asafohene, through a phone interview with William Ofori, opined that the stretch of that portion of the road has taken over 50 lives since that road was constructed and all efforts by Nananom of Amanase to have a speed ramp or Footbridge has proved futile and that influenced the youth to autonomously blocked the Accra-Kumasi stretch of the road for about 3 to 4 hours.

"The angry youth burnt tyres on the road creating gridlock and chanted war songs for so many hours before police personnel came to calmed tensions".

"Nana Asante Asumani stated that this is not the first time residents have demonstrated over continuous killings of their relatives in the community due to refusal on the part of drivers to slow down on reaching the Community, he stressed".

The victim who was crushed to death by the tipper truck is said to be an old man of over 70 years and a widow.

His body was crushed into pieces that littered the road and run over by many vehicles.

It took the intervention of armed Police to disperse the angry youth amidst the firing of warning shots before the road was eventually cleared to pave way for motorists to proceed to their destination.
