Grassroots, members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including residents of the Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, have appealed to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to appoint the two-term Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the NDC in the area, Mr. Charles Darko Yeboah, widely known as Ozay, as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly.
They stressed that Mr. Yeboah, a native of Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region and a grassroots leader, has been widely endorsed by constituents, including chiefs, queen mothers, religious leaders, students, traders, farmers, and grassroots supporters of the NDC, due to his unwavering commitment to the people of the constituency.
The supporters expressed displeasure over the lack of development in the municipality, lamenting that the area has suffered deprivation over the years.
They remain hopeful that Mr. Yeboah's appointment as MCE would restore confidence in the new NDC government, as he possesses the qualities needed to transform the lives of constituents.
Mr. Yeboah contested the parliamentary seat for the constituency on the ticket of the NDC in December 2020 and again in 2024 but suffered a loss on both occasions.
According to the supporters, their clarion call to President Dramani Mahama to appoint Mr. Yeboah as MCE is justified, as he is a grassroots leader who deeply understands the needs and challenges of the constituency.
They stated that appointing Mr. Yeboah as the MCE would give him the rightful opportunity to leverage his business expertise to address the pressing challenges facing the area.
They further clarified that appointing this philanthropist as MCE would enable him to work hard to make the NDC more attractive to the people of Abuakwa North.
This, in turn, would increase the party's chances of winning the parliamentary seat in the 2028 general elections from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The supporters also highlighted Mr. Yeboah's impressive performance in the December 7, 2024, general elections, where he polled 14,508 votes, representing 48.77%, against the NPP parliamentary candidate, Nana Ampaw Frempong affectionately called Buffalo who garnered 15,241 votes, representing 51.23%.
They noted that Mr. Yeboah's efforts also helped increase the votes for the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the 2024 general elections.
President Mahama polled 13,201 votes, representing 44.76%, against the NPP’s flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 15,815 votes, representing 53.62%.
The supporters appealed to His Excellency President Mahama, emphasizing that the NDC winning the Abuakwa North parliamentary seat in 2028 for the first time in history is a strong possibility.
"In this regard, we are appealing to you, our President John Dramani Mahama, to appoint Mr. Yeboah as the new MCE. With his mandate, he can deliver more social and infrastructural developmental projects and programs in the area. This will increase the chances of the NDC to wrestle the parliamentary seat from the NPP in the 2028 general election," they stated.
