About 4,000 Enumerators Employed for the Population Census in Northern Region - GSS Director
Mr George Agbenyo, GSS Director

Mr George Agbenyo, the Northern Regional Director for the Statistical Service has revealed that about 4,000 enumerators are being used in the ongoing population census in the region.

This among other things, he said, is making the enumeration process run smoothly as expected at the various districts.

Mr George said the enumerators have not encountered any problem since the beginning of the listing stage, except at the Bimbila District where a resident refused to be enumerated.

According to him some areas including the Sagnarigu District, Tamale South and the Tamale Central have been discovered of having huge populations, hence the services of more enumerators would be employed to accomplish the task in those areas.

He catalogued the importance of the census, starting that government, International bodies and other organizations needs them to plan for good.

"We need data to plan, nobody plan in the vacuum so this census data is for our own good, we all need it, the government need it, local government, researchers and NGOs who do advocacy need data to back what they are doing". He said.

Mr George appealed to Stakeholders in the region to use their platforms to urge the public to avail themselves when the Statistical service enumerators encounter them.
