The Chief of Abesim, Barima Kumi Acheaw II, has said the suspect in the murder of three children at Abesim in Sunyani East Municipality of Bono Region is mentally unsound.

Speaking to Kwesi Kyei Baffour on Ark in the Morning, the chief revealed how Richard Appiah, the suspect, was once sent to the Psychiatric hospital but later escaped.

Twenty-eight-year-old Appiah, an architect, has been arrested by the Police for the alleged murder of three children and keeping parts of two of the bodies in a fridge.

He is believed to have murdered 12-year-old Louis Agyemang Junior, who was his stepbrother, 15-year-old Stephen and a yet to be identified the third person.

According to the police, a second suspect has also been arrested to assist the police in investigations.

This was disclosed when the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare visited the chief and the families of the deceased and the suspect to console them and assured them of the readiness of the police to fast track investigations into the matter.

Barima Kumi Acheaw II said an issue of this nature had never occurred in the area before and was therefore very worrying and called on the IGP to resource Abesim Police Station to combat crime.
