'A new NDC government will be better than the previous one' - Mahama Promises
John Mahama

Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to ‘do better’ than his previous government if given the mandate again to lead the country in the upcoming elections.

According to the NDC’s flagbearer, though his past administration focused on infrastructure development, it would have eventually made headways in improving the lives of Ghanaians in other sectors, since development ‘takes place in stages’

Mahama admitted that there were steps he wrongly took during his first term in office.

He made this known speaking with the Chiefs and people of Ullo in the Upper West Region, per reports by ‘Citinewsroom’

“Development takes place in stages. The last time we were in government, it was to improve the road network so we get many of the roads on contract. Unfortunately, because the NDC left office, a lot of these projects came to a standstill. So I can assure Nana that, I am in a unique position because I am the only President who has the opportunity to come back and correct his mistakes. No other President in Ghana can do that. I believe that a new NDC government will be a much better government than the previous one. ”

Mahama has already in his tour in Upper West promised to improve the country’s healthcare system by implementing free primary healthcare for all Ghanaians under a special arrangement to be managed by the National Health Insurance Authority

According to John Mahama, this initiative will eliminate financial barriers to health and give everyone the opportunity to access healthcare services in the country.

“It is the aim of all countries to attain what we call universal healthcare. Unfortunately, our National Health Insurance Scheme makes it difficult for us to obtain this objective because the payment of premiums at the lower rank of the health delivery system makes it difficult for everybody to be able to access quality healthcare. So we are breaking a new program to supplement the NHIS.”

“Let me point out that this programme and plan we are bringing is going to be implemented and supervised by the NHIS But it is going to be a program for free primary healthcare so that at the level of the CHPS compound, polyclinics and health centres all Ghanaians will have access to free healthcare whether they possess a national health insurance card or not.”
