The Upper West Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service have arrested eighty-three (83) persons in the Wa Municipality for failing to comply with the coronavirus protocols outlined by the Government of Ghana.

The people arrested were without nose mask and the Command after the arrest paraded them to the forecourt of the police station to be educated on the need to adhere to the President’s COVID-19 directives.

The culprits were arrested on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at different locations including Kejetia market, NIB traffic lights, Main traffic lights and the Police roundabout in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West region.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command Inspector, Gideon Ohene Boateng indicated that the 83 persons of which 17 are females and 66 males were issued letters of discharge to be of good behaviour and not fall foul in abiding by the COVID -19 directives.

Meanwhile, some of the culprits who spoke with SoireeNews were of the view that the Police should have given a prior notice either through radio or information service vans before embarking on such an exercise.

Others were also of the opinion that when someone is driving alone in a car, the person should not be forced to wear a mask and likewise a person riding a motorbike alone.

Although the Police freed the arrested person in their maiden exercise, the Command says it is would embark on more of such exercises in the coming days in their quest to implement the president directives on COVID-19.
