The Veterinary Officer within the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, Mr. Iddriss Yahya has, disclosed that over 70 percent of ailments and viruses in humans are obtained from the consumption of meats of infected animals.

The Veterinary Officer within the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, Mr. Iddriss Yahya has, disclosed that over 70 percent of ailments and viruses in humans are obtained from the consumption of meats of infected animals.
Speaking in an interview with Mr. Iddriss Yahya during a one-day sensitization programme with the butchers association in Jaman North District, he stated that veterinary services have embarked on a programme dubbed "public health activities.
The programme involves the prevention of infection transferred from animals to humans with veterinary services ensuring that all meats available on market are well screened to make sure they are virus free and good for human consumption.
"This is because research indicates that over 70% of infections and diseases are obtained from infected animals," he noted.
He indicated that veterinary officers must certify all meats that come to the market to ensure they are safe for human consumption, he also pleaded with the butchers to ensure that meats on the market are virus free.
Mr. Yahya revealed that the commonest virus detected among most animals in the Jaman North District is Tuberculosis in animals (TB), and brucellosis. 
He, therefore, advised the general public to be vigilant about the kind of meat they buy from the market and consume since it can have a series of health consequences if the meats are infected with animal viruses. 
The deputy Chief Butcher of the Sampa Butchers Association shared the problems of the butchers in the District .
He indicated that they lacked a well-structured slaughtering house and access to water, the challenges which are always affecting their work.
Against this background, he called on the Jaman North District Assembly and other stakeholders to come to their aid for the construction of slaughterhouse to prevent other animals from eating from the slaughter slabs since it poses a health danger to the meat consumers.
