5 Armed Robbers Arrested in Kumasi over Adansi Asokwa Bullion Van Robbery

The Regional Police Commander, COP Kwasi Mensah Duku, said the 5 suspected armed robbers as part of investigations were arrested at their various hideouts at Techiman in the Bono East Region, Kumasi in Ashanti, and at Kasoa in The Central Region

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 5 suspected armed robbers in Kumasi today.

The armed robbers were arrested in relation to the Bullion Van robbery incident that happened at Adansi Nyankomase near Obuasi junction in the Adansi  Fomena District in the Ashanti Region on 20th January 2021 where a Police Constable, Baba Martin was shot dead.

At a press conference addressed by COP Kwasi Mensah Duku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander today, he said “you will recall on that faithful day a Bullion Van belonging to the Delta Security Company which was transporting cash of an amount of GHC 500,000 from the Ghana Commercial Bank Dunkwa-on-Offin Branch to New Edubiase Branch was attacked and Police Gen. Constance Baba Martin in the process was killed. By the grace of God and with credible information from the public, we have been able to arrest five of the suspects and are currently in our custody assisting us with investigations.”

The Regional Police Commander, COP Kwasi Mensah Duku, said the suspects as part of the investigation were arrested at their various hideouts at Techiman in the Bono East Region, Kumasi in Ashanti, and at Kasoa in The Central Region.

The suspects in Police custody include Bismark Owusu Ansah alias Obese 29, Azumah Titus 23, Kofi Matthew alias Wiser 24, Kwadwo Agyapong alias Labista 30, and Martin Tei alias Kwadwo Darko 26 years.

The Ashanti Police Commander said the suspects involved in the robbery case were 10 but the police have been able to arrest five so far.

According to COP Kwasi Mensah Duku, the five suspects admitted the offense during police interrogations.

Subsequent to their arrest a cash sum of 53,934 together with a 2020 Toyota salon car, one tricycle (Pragia) some two motorbikes were retrieved. They bought the above-mentioned properties from the share of the booty.

In addition, the police retrieved GHC 53,934 cash from the suspects.

“Other personal effects suspected to have been bought from the booty were also retrieved and  they’re with us for evidential purpose.” The commanded declared.

The Regional Police Commander told the press that the suspects admitted they acquired assets mentioned above out of the share of the booty.

The suspects Kofi Mathew alias Wiser, Martin Teye a.k.a Kwaku Darko, are already on the wanted list of the Bono East Regional Police Command for their involvement in WESTEC Security Bullion Van which,  happened on the 8th May 2020.

The two suspects also involved in an incident that happened at Techiman in The Bono East Region Where a Bullion Van was also attacked.

The Ashanti Regional Command however mounted a man haunt for one John Appiah alias Omega, a 22-year-old SHS graduate who is said to be the Leader of the Robbery Gang.

According to police information, the wanted Omega was involved in the Ambulance robbery incident where the ambulance driver was shot at Asesewa near Koforidua.

According to Police information, Martin Tei who is in police custody in collaboration with Omega led the Koforidua robbery incident.

Police intelligence has it that Omega is a very violent person, "trigger happy" and ready to kill his victim at the least instance.

He has recruited other criminal gangs in other parts of the country and calls on them to embark on his robbery escapades when the need arises.

his other accomplices who are also on the run have been declared wanted by the Ashanti Regional Police command.

The Police are therefore calling on the public to assist the police to “arrest these notorious robbers.”
