4 Accused Cell Breakers sentenced to 8 Years Imprisonment

The Police prosecutor narrated that the accused persons broke away police cells and caused havoc to a police officer on duty.

The Asamankese circuit court presided over by His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams has sentenced four police cell breakers to 8 years imprisonment with hard labour, for causing unlawful harm to a police officer on duty and unlawfully escaping from police custody in Oda.

Each of the culprits is to serve two years jail term sentence. They are 30-year-old Yaw Gyimah, Michael Kumi also 30 years, 19-year-old Samuel Otu, and last but not the least, Kwame Baffoe, who is also 22 years of age.

The court also ordered Michael Kumi to be reappeared on June 17, 2021, to face the law for another count of crime and if found guilty, he shall deem for another punishable offence, the judge explained.

The police prosecutor, Sgt Richard Mekposigbe, told the court, that the accused persons broke away police cells and caused havoc to a police officer on duty, Frederick Anokye who was serving 19 suspects in Akyem Oda police custody where the four sentenced men allegedly, and violently punched the police officer and escaped from the police cells. 

According to the prosecutor, the police officer hurriedly called for help and was rushed to Oda Hospital for treatment, which later on,  the accused persons were traced by the police patrol team before being arrested for prosecution.

The court after hearing the prosecutor asked the accused persons of the case, which each of them pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, and upon a little brief, the judge sentenced each to 2 years of jail with hard labour.
