296 Reported Teenage Pregnancy Recorded Within 6 Months- Asikuma GES Education Director

Elder Ebenezer Nyarkoh, the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District Examination Coordinator at Ghana Education Service, reported that cases of teenage pregnancies in the district hit 678 excluding the aborted and unreported.

Teenage pregnancy in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of Central Region is on the rise, especially the students from 10 to 19. 

In an interview with a Central Regional radio station basically in Breman Asikuma monitored by Soireenews, the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District Examination Coordinator at Ghana Education Service, Elder Ebenezer Nyarkoh has said, last year from January to December reported cases of teenage pregnancies in the district hit 678 excluding the aborted and unreported.

These were only cases reported at the Hospital. The ages were 10 to 14 years amounted to 15 pregnancies and 15 to 19 years were 663 pregnancies.

He continued that, from January to June this year, reported teenage pregnancy in the district has hit 296. The age includes 10 to 14 are 6 pregnancies and 15 to 19 are also 290 pregnancies. 

Elder Nyarkoh stated that the causes of teenage pregnancy in the district particularly are selling of herbal medicines at the information centres, early marriage, single parental care, risky adolescent behaviour, parental neglect, lack of communication and supervision of the children are the major indicators of the teenage pregnancies.

He advised the parents to take proper care of their wards.
