A total of twenty-nine (29 ) persons made up of 26 students and 3 teachers have reportedly tested positive for covid-19 at a school in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern region.

This was discovered after the school conducted mass testing for its staff and students.

Per a report by Accra based Starr FM, the said school to be Akosombo International School.

The report indicated that the infected students and teachers have been quarantined in a hotel at Akosombo for management of their cases.

The Eastern Regional Health Director, Dr Winfred Ofosu is said to have confirmed the situation but did not disclose the name of the school adding that the Regional Health Directorate was yet to be furnished with a detailed report from the Asuogyaman District Health Directorate.

Meanwhile, twenty (20) positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded cumulatively in some schools in the Greater Accra Region, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has disclosed.

According to the GHS, there was also a limited outbreak of the disease in some schools in the Upper West and the Western Region

Giving updates on the virus to the media, the Director-General of the GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, said contact tracing has commenced helping to curb the spread of the virus in the schools.

“We still have a limited outbreak of COVID-19 cases] in schools across the country. We’ve had some cases in Upper West, Western, and Greater Accra. But Accra, has cumulatively reported about 20 cases in a couple of schools and the contact tracing and isolation are currently ongoing,” he stated.

Ghana’s COVID-19 death toll has now hit 433, according to the latest figures by the Ghana Health Service.

A total of 777 new COVID-19 cases have also been recorded, shooting up the active cases to 5,786.

497 persons have also recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries to 62,340.

Currently, Ghana has 126 and 46 persons in severe and critical conditions respectively. A total of 788,526 tests have been conducted since the outbreak.
