2,423 Ghanaians Abroad Have Reached out for Urgent Evacuation –Ablakwa

Some 2,423 stranded Ghanaians abroad, have so far reached out to authorities in sought of a return home, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed.

He said, the figures - which were presented to Parliament by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway - captured Ghanaian nationals abroad who have reached out to the country’s diplomatic missions.

The figures are as follows;

China – 675

USA – 634

UAE – 500

UK – 435

Benin – 141 (language students)

Mauritania – 19

Burkina Faso – 14

Turks and Caicos – 5

Ayorkor Botchway had said that, data gathering and preparations for evacuation continue for stranded Ghanaians abroad.

In related development, Forty-one (41) Ghanaians who were in Washington DC, USA, have been evacuated.

They arrived today, June 6 2020, aboard a South African Airways flight at the Kotoko International Airport.

Most of them were students who went on an exchange program sponsored by the State Department of the United States of America.
