The Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy has been adopted by parliament through a headcount.

After the debate of the Economic Policy,  a question was posed in respect of those who are in the favour of the documents, but the Minority NDC caucus disagreed with the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Wusu for ruling for the those who said yes and called for a headcount.

The substantive speaker of the house Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin took over the chair and initiated the process of the headcount which at the end of the result, the NPP majority won with all 137 members present.

The Minority NDC caucus were defeated with 3 members been absent which gave them 134 members present.

The three members of the NDC who were not in the house are Honourable Samuel Atta Mill, Member of Parliament for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem, Honourable Augustine Tewiah, Member of Parliament for Bia West and Honourable Benjamin Kolma Kpodo, Member of Parliament for Ho Central.

In the course of the debate, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu pointed out some issues which his side of the House see it problematic and for that reason, can not give their support to the approval of the budget.

Mr Haruna spoke against the imposition of levies like the energy sector recovery levy which has increased the prices of fuel, sanitation levy and others.

He suggested that the timing for introducing these taxes and levies is wrong since it will put more burden on Ghanaians in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But the Deputy Majority leader and MP for Effutu, Honourable Afenyo Markin refuted the claims of Mr Haruna Iddrisu, saying, the Minority leader is misinforming, speculating and finally poisoning the minds of Ghanaians in view of the all well-intended budget for the good people of Ghana.
