England fans couldn’t hold the excitement created by Gareth Southgate and his XI-man squad who made history on Wednesday night progressing to the EURO 2020 finals.

"Following the fantastic win by England, officers were out across London patrolling and engaging with people. There were large pockets of groups who gathered predominantly in central London, and officers remained with them", the police tweeted.

England fans took to the streets of London late on Wednesday after the national team beat Denmark in extra time at the Wembley Stadium and reached the final of a major tournament for the first time in more than half-century.

London Police have reportedly arrested a total of 20 people following last night's raucous celebrations after England’s victory in the semi-finals.

Traffic came to a standstill at Piccadilly Circus in central London when fans blocked streets and climbed on telephone boxes.

Last night also saw 60,000 fans gather inside Wembley Stadium, roaring as players embraced at the end of a gruelling extra-time period.

The familiar “It’s Coming Home” song reverberated around Wembley at the final whistle.

Many fans tried to stay out late to enjoy the win, with a few dozen supporters in Leicester Square climbing on top of a number 9 double-decker bus to Aldwych, cheering and holding a St George's flag aloft before crowds were broken up by police.

Fans in Birmingham dived into canals and paddled around in the water after the final whistle.

One supporter even stripped down to his underpants as he danced along to 'football's coming home'.

Meanwhile crowds let off fireworks in Manchester and gathered in their hundreds in Stevenson Square, throwing a giant inflatable football to each other.
