1,595 Health Workers have contracted Covid-19

The Ashanti Region has recorded 17,898 cases since the inception of the coronavirus disease with 16,466 recoveries.

Some 1,595 health workers in the Ashanti region have been infected with the coronavirus pandemic.

The regional Health Director, Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang told the media at a press conference on Monday, Jul 26, 2021, that 151 Doctors have been infected while 868 are nurses and 576 being other health workers.

He said 1,593 infected health workers have recovered while two have died.

The Ashanti Region so far has recorded 17,898 cases since the inception of the coronavirus disease with 16,466 recoveries.

The active cases stand at 1,135  whiles 1,109 cases are being managed at home while 26 are on admission.

Dr Tinkorang said new cases from July 19 to July 25 this year stand at 783 with 120 cases recording every day in the region.

He said most of the cases recorded in the region are in Greater Kumasi.

The towns in the Greater Kumasi with a higher number of cases are Adum, Abrepo, Oforikrom, Kwadaso among others.

He indicated that the more transmissible delta variant has been recorded.

Dr Tinkorang said a total disregard for coronavirus pandemic safety protocols is the cause of the spread of the disease.

He called on residents in the region to ensure they adhere to the covid-19 safety protocols to ensure their safety.
