The Western North Regional Minister, Richard Obeng has launched a campaign of ''1 School Child, 1 Study Desk'' to provide every school child in the Region with a study desk.

The initiative is to end the perennial problem of "No Desk" in the various schools across the Region where school children have to carry sitting stools from the homes to school and some also sit on the bare floor to study. The situation is leading to a lack of effective teaching and learning in the schools.

In view of this, the Regional Coordinating Council has invited stakeholders, including Traditional rulers, Timber Firms, Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Religious Leaders, Youths Groups, Party Executive, and many others to partake in the launch of the laudable initiative.

Speaking at the launch,  the Regional Minister, Richard Obeng reiterated his commitment and support with the assurance of improving education to be competitive in the Region.

The Acting Director of the Western North Regional Director of Education, Stephen Kwaku Owusu lauded the Minister for the initiative, hoping that it will contribute a lot to the development of teaching and learning.

He said schools without desk should not be entertained therefore stakeholders need to seek alternative means to support the government in the society.

Mr Owusu also used the opportunity to commend the government for imperative educational reforms on professionalism, the introduction of standard base curriculum and core programmes at Junior and Senior high level aimed at providing quality education.

He added that this initiative by the Regional Minister must be supported because the enrolment of the students is high in the Region.

He explained that about 67000 deficit of mono and dual desk is needed adding that Kingdagarten needs about 7971, 15000 for lower primary with Upper primary demanding 3300. The Junior High was estimated at around 7290.

Meanwhile all the Nine MMDCES across the Region pledge to support the initiative by contributing an amount.
