The Managing Director of the Ghana Water Service (GWS), Ing. Dr. Clifford A. Braimah has commended the Ghana Water Company Ladies Association (GWCLA) for their determination and hard work which has projected and advanced the Water Company through National development over the years.

He addressed that the Women’s group established 30 years ago has been supportive in nation building by way of making donations to less privileged societies, adopting orphanages to support and visiting some prisons to take care of pregnant inmates until they gave birth, effort which outlines the intelligence of the Water Ladies in projecting the good name of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

 

 

“Water ladies, you are such a formidable force within the Company; you are one of our most cherished stakeholders and we hold you in high esteem. You do not concern yourselves with your welfare but you organize programmes that positively project GWCL

“Over the years, you have made donations to the less privileged in society; you have adopted some orphanages that you give support to; you have visited some prisons and taken care of pregnant female inmates until they gave birth, you have undertaken customer education programmes and provided boreholes to water stressed communities. You have also planted trees at our various water treatment sites and organized countless cleaning exercise there as well.  

“Management is very happy about your involvement in Revenue Mobilization Exercises,” he revealed.

He conveyed the message during the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Ghana Water Company Limited Ladies Association under the theme, “Inclusiveness in water, Sanitation and Hygiene: Leaving no other behind,” on November 15, 2019 at the Ghana Water Head Office, Suame.

 

 

The Ghana Company Ladies Association (GWCLA) established in 1989 by a few ladies in service from Accra and Tema Metropolitan Areas was aimed at encouraging ladies to upgrade themselves and rise to the top of the ladder with a mission of seeing to it that all ladies of the Association are up to their task, well behave and upgraded.

They had an objective to bring together all the lady employees of Ghana Water Company Limited under one umbrella to promote and protect the interest of its members by securing a united action on all issues affecting or likely to affect them.

The Water Ladies Association for the past 30 years have executed projects to improve sanitation in some slum areas in Ghana. They have provided water points for some needy communities including Provision of pump fitted Hand dug well in selected guinea worm infested areas in Accra and the Central Regions. The erection of metered standpipe for an urban poor community in Sekondi and the construction of 10 No. household toilet facilities at Chorkor are a few from the many projects undertaken by the Water Ladies.

 

 

The Managing Director spoke of how pleasing certain beneficiaries of their toilet facilities are wheel chair-bound women and others visually impaired. He urged them to keep effecting informing programmes that will define the GWCLA. He assured them of management’s support.

“Thank you very much for all the positive publicity you bring you bring to the GWCL. Continue to come out with innovative programmes that will continue to improve your lot as women, the company you work for and the society around you,” he ended.

The President of Ghana Water Company Limited Ladies Association, Mrs. Juliana Konama Amponsah-Asiamah appreciated the management for assisting the ladies especially their interactions and physical presence during annual delegate conference and meetings.

 

 

She assured that the Water Ladies would not relent on its achievement but continue to work hard to uphold the image of the company and also maintain the unity and singleness of purpose of the Association.

“The Association will continue to work closely with management to mobilize revenue which is a hallmark, we will also expand our tentacles by reaching more or less privileged in the society under the association’s ‘code’ you and your community,” she said.

An appeal was made to the administration to consider the development of modern offices with the kind of ambience that would be appreciated by customers.
