Jurgen Klopp has described Roberto Firmino’s performance against Spurs as ‘impressive’.

The Brazilian was on the scoresheet against Jose Mourinho’s side on Saturday night at the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium and he scored the only goal in the match. The 1-0 away win earned at Tottenham Hotspur gave them a record start to the season.

Both sides started strongly with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shooting against the post, while Son Heung-min fired narrowly wide.

Virgil van Dijk might have given Liverpool the lead, but his header from Jordan Henderson's cross was well saved by Paulo Gazzaniga.

Liverpool broke the deadlock on 37 minutes, Firmino latching on to Mohamed Salah's pass to rifle home.  Spurs improved in the second half and might have levelled late on had Son not blazed over or substitute Giovani Lo Celso been able to steer Serge Aurier's cross past Alisson.

Speaking after the game, the manager revealed how the 28-year old approached him after the final whistle and expressed regret for missing a few chances. Klopp classified his player as ‘super’.

“When I went to him and wanted to give him a hug after the game, he wanted to stop and talk first” Klopp said.

“He said, ‘I know I should have scored more goals’... it was absolutely not what I wanted to say! It is true probably, but I didn’t even know exactly. He should have immediately with the first chance: it was brilliant play and then he hits somehow the goalkeeper and Oxlade hits the post. Yes, [he is] a super player, super. I don’t say this for the first time and will hopefully not say it for the last time. Pretty impressive.

The Reds' 12th successive league victory takes them 16 points clear at the top on 61 and represents the best-ever total after 21 matches of a top-flight season.

Spurs drop to eighth on 30 points.
