Western Region Emerging as New Covid-19 Hostpot in Ghana

The Western Region in Ghana has come under the radar of health officials as the new Covid-19 hostpot in the country.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye said the region has seen a sudden spike in covid-19 cases per the latest update, as 57 persons tested positive for the disease.

He noted that the cases from the region are “mainly from the Sekondi-Takoradi Municipality, the Metropolis, and Tarkwa”.

Dr Kuma Aboagye said a team has been deployed to the area, to help in managing the pandemic situation as done in the Ashanti Region.

He however noted that, Ashanti region “remains another key area, where the Kumasi ‘Metro’ and Obuasi [are under surveillance]”.

Dr Kuma Aboagye said, due to the aggressive measures employed, the Obuasi area is currently under control, “and they are reporting virtually no cases”.

He added that, the situation in the Greater Accra has remained the same, with the main identified hotspots being “Accra Metropolis, Tema and Ashaiman”.
