The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo says regardless of the difficult times Ghana has been through, it has never “lost her position as the inspirational leading light on the African continent”.

According to Nana Addo, the country should have made proficient use of its resources to make life better for citizens yet Ghana has every reason to rejoice and be thankful to God for the peace bestowed.

“It was 63 years ago, today, that our forefathers’ dream of independence of our nation became a reality. We were the trailblazers for the independence movement of the continent, we held out hope for restored dignity to the black race around the world.

"Since we gained our independence, we have had difficult times, and stumbled in the search to reach our potential, but Ghana has never lost her position as the inspirational leading light on the African continent,' he wrote.

Ghana is 63 years today since its won Independence from the hands of the British in March 6, 1957. Per the directives of the government since he took over, the Independence celebration would not be stationed in Accra only, but rotate through the 16 Regions for inhabitants to appreciate the toils of the fore fathers.

Tamale was the first to host the celebrations outside Accra since its inception as chiefs and people, pleasantly displayed their rich Northern culture and unity.

The Ashanti Region is the host of the event at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and throughout the week, activities leading to the festivities has been remarkable.

Residents believe that Ghana should have done better than in terms of infrastructure and a better governance considering the raw materials and mineral deposit the nation posess yet the president has challenged that the way forward of the nation dwells not only on government but also on the entire citizens therefore expression towards achieving the goal is most significant.

“The consensus is holding for all of us to work towards the prosperous, peaceful and happy Ghana we want. We all recognise that the responsibility we carry as the first sub-Saharan colonial country to gain independence is not simply to build a successful country.

“We owe it to the rest of the continent and the black race to demonstrate that, indeed, we can build and run a successful, prosperous and happy country. This is a task we do not shirk, and which all Ghanaians accept,” he added.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Hon. Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley is the Guest of the Ghana’s 63 rd Independence Day celebration
