Jurgen Klopp has asserted that a player’s performance is what defines the thought behind his purchase therefore regardless of whether high or low one is bought, the hard work on the field of play is the evidence of the purchase.

He spoke concerning Andy Robertson’s inclusion in the Reds team at a fee of £8m from Hull City, developed as one of the best left-backs in the world.

During a pre-match conference at Melwood on Tuesday afternoon, the manager of the Reds when asked about the impact of the Scottish since he joined the Reds in 2017 replied that the 26-year-old was acquired to fulfill an important task in the team, and the purpose speaks of itself when he is featured week in and week out.

“I really don’t like that we always talk about players [in terms of] ‘that’s the price’,” Klopp replied.

“Andy Robertson, I’m not sure we would have paid £30 million [at] that time but it would have been worth it.

“It was not about the money that we took him - your price can be £8m but if you are not good enough then £8m is pretty expensive! It’s a lot of money for somebody who is not good enough, that’s how it is.

“Andy Robertson was somebody we brought in because he was a player we thought who could really help us. It was always clear that he had to improve a few things but a few things were already then that good that we said: ‘OK, come on, let’s give it more than a proper try.’

“And I couldn’t be more happy because all the things I thought about him, he’s much better. He’s a much better person, he’s a much better football player, he has an incredible personality.

“So, a great three years. An absolutely massive win-win situation for a wonderful lad from Glasgow and for the club as well, so perfect fit.”

Robertson since joining the Reds have won the Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup accolades.

He is part of the Premier League winning team and has made 34 appearances for the Reds in the current Premier League season and scored two goals.
