Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a new Mobile App for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The app, named ‘ECG-Power’ will have about 2.8 million out of the 3.8 million ECG customers to immediately have the convenience and an easier way of buying electrical power and making payments for same, as well as assess other ECG services via their mobile phones.

According to report, plans are far underway for the remaining customers to be hooked up onto the system within a year.

Per the design, both users of smartphone and non-smart phone can buy power through their mobile phones. Smartphone users can download the App on Google play store or Apple. Those with “yam” phones can simply dial *226# to buy credit for their meters.

You can also buy credit for friends or relatives using the mobile App.

The technology will also tackle two major problems: first, improve on ECG's critical functions of delivering power to its customers; and, second, address the more serious challenge of mobilizing its revenues from power delivery effectively and efficiently.

The ECG mobile App was developed in house by the IT staff of ECG and the Vice President urged the Management of ECG to continue to provide the staff with the necessary support, tools and productivity-enhancing incentives to deliver on the job.
