Rafael Varane has admitted that Madrid’s Champions League second leg against Manchester City will be a hard-hitting fixture.

The Champions League will return on August 7, with Real Madrid traveling to England to fulfill the additional part of the game following their 2-1 loss at home to Guardiola’s side.

With lots of space separating the first leg from the second due to the recent spark of coronavirus, Los Blancos players believe that there is work to be done if they can advance into the next round of the competition.

"[It will be] a difficult game against a very good team," Varane said in a video message posted on Real Madrid’s social media accounts.

"The first leg was a top-quality game, with pressing from both teams.

"It was decided by the small details.

"[Real Madrid and City are] two teams that like to have the ball, are very intense and that require lots of concentration.

"These are the best games in the Champions League - the ones that are decided by very little.

"They are why we love this competition."

A win (apart from 2-1) to Madrid at the Etihad will see them through the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Zidane is yet to lose a game since the restart having secured the La Liga trophy with a four-point gap separating them and Barcelona.

The 27-year old French center back who played a key role in denying Barca the chance to defend the title spoke on the relevance of winning matches hence the necessity to prepare for it.

"We want to win every day, we're Real Madrid.

"We want to win everything possible and gain more confidence that way.

"We haven't had games to play beforehand, so we have time to prepare ourselves.

"The best team on the day will win.

"We'll go into [the game] with hunger to win and the necessary determination."
