UEFA Champions League: Los Blacos frustratingly HELD by 10-man Club Brugge af the Bernabeu

Bonaventure scored two in the first half before Ramos pulled a goal back in the second half. Casemiro levelled the scores in the 85-minute to split the spoils

Real Madrid were denied their first win in the UEFA Champions League second match after been held by 10-man Club Brugge at the Santiago Bernabeu.

 

 

Madrid lost their first game by 3-0 aganst Paris St. Germain whiles the Belgian team were frustrated by Galatasaray at the Jan Breydel Stadium. 

Minded Vinícius Júnior was kept on the bench as Modrić returned to action. He was as a second-half substitute at Atlético on Saturday after three weeks out with an adductor injury.

 

 

Madrid dictated play in he opening  minutes by passing the ball around leisurely whiles the visitors snapped their heels.

Modric missed the target as he fired a first time just wide after a nice exchange of passes between Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez down the right. The visitors found Bonaventure upfront with the long balls to threaten them on a few occasions but Madrid’s defense effected the offside trap well.

 

 

Club Brugge opened the scores in the 9-minute through Bonaventure. Tau was put in play with a through pass down the left. He accelerated towards the flank and set up a suitable pass to Bonaventure in a decent position upfront. He missed his step but was fortunate to trip on ball, which beat Courtois in post and slowly run into the net.

The VAR was consulted in what could be a possible offside but the goal was allowed by the referee.

 

 

  A Terrific stop from Mignolet denies Rafael Varane from scoring. The former Liverpool shot stopper whipped out a strong right hand to block Varane's point-blank header following a corner. He was quick in the air once again to deny the save in the 28-minute.

The visitors threatened again on the break as Bonaventure demonstrated plenty of poise by drawing out a defender and dinking the ball through to Tau. The South African shot towards the far post but Courtois dealt with it expertly.

The Belgians doubled the lead through Bonaventure again 6-minutes to end proceedings. Modric Bonaventure a pass and the 21-year-old gallops towards goal. He almost fell over himself before a gorgeous chip over the advancing Courtois.

 

 

Courtois made way for Areola in Zidane’s tactical substitution before Marcelo was given the greenlight since September 14 for Nacho.

Bonaventure almost completed his hat trick in the 53-minute. The Club Brugge forward brilliantly turned Varane inside out before stabbing a shot towards goal. Credit to Areola, who is quickly run off his line to block.

Two minutes later after intense pressing from Madrid, Sergio Ramos scored his 12 UEFA Champions League goal. The Madrid skipper dragged Los Blancos back in the game with a header at the far post. The effort was initially given offside but, after consulting VAR, the goal stood.

 

 

Madrid kept attacking the Brugges with their passing game upfront though Eden Hazard. The Belgian’s ball control was intensive but his drive into the box lacked accuracy.

Vormer, the visitors captain  received a second yellow card in the 84-minute for a dangerous tackle on Vinicius Jnr. Club Brugge had no option than play the rest of the match with ten men.

Casemiro equalized from the set piece five minutes to end proceedings. The man in white rose above Mechele and powered the ball beyond Mignolet following Kroos' free kick.

 

 

The visitors held Los Blancos through a tough four minutes additional time to end the game.

Madrid remain at the buttom of the table with a point.
